A double bed frame gives you more room to stretch out than a single bed frame without taking up as much floor space as a queen. At Factory Buys, you'll find double bed frames in metal, timber, fabric, velvet, bouclé and PU leather finishes, with designs ranging from simple frames to upholstered and storage beds.

With stock ready to dispatch within 1 to 2 business days, you won't have to wait long to get started on the bedroom. Each bed frame is backed by a 12-month warranty, with support available seven days a week from our Australian owned and operated team.

Is a double bed frame the right size for your room?

A standard Australian double mattress measures 138cm wide by 188cm long, making it wider than a single. It can give one sleeper plenty of room or provide a more compact option for two people where bedroom space is limited. Think about how you'll move around the bed too. Allow room for doors and wardrobes to open and consider whether you want space for bedside tables on one or both sides. If you have more floor space available and want additional sleeping room, compare the range with our queen bed frames.

Choose a double bed frame material

Metal bed frames create a clean, simple look, while timber introduces natural tones and texture. Upholstered double bed frames offer extra comfort and warmth. Fabric, velvet and bouclé each bring their own texture to the bedroom, while PU leather provides a smooth finish that's easy to coordinate with contemporary furniture. Colour is another thing to consider. Black, grey and white work across plenty of bedroom styles, while beige, timber tones and textured upholstery can create a softer or warmer look.

Make more of your space with a storage bed

Different storage designs work in different ways. Some frames include drawers that pull out from underneath, while gas-lift designs raise the mattress platform to reveal storage within the bed base. Before choosing, consider how the storage will open within your room. Drawers need enough clear space beside the bed to extend, while a lift-up design keeps access within the footprint of the frame. Browse our bed frames with storage to compare the different options available in a double.

Find a headboard style to finish the room

A headboard can change the overall look of a double bed, from simple metal and timber designs to upholstered styles that make the bed more of a focal point. Check both the height and depth of the headboard when measuring your room. Larger upholstered or winged designs can extend beyond the mattress dimensions, while lower-profile designs may suit rooms where you want to keep more of the wall visible.

Double Bed Frame FAQ

What size is a double bed frame in Australia?

A standard Australian double mattress measures 138cm wide by 188cm long. The complete bed frame will usually be larger than the mattress, with the exact dimensions depending on its side rails, headboard, footboard and overall design. Always use the external product dimensions when measuring your room.

Is a double bed big enough for two adults?

A double bed can accommodate two adults, but it provides less sleeping space than a queen or king. Whether it feels spacious enough comes down to personal preference and the room you have available. If space allows, compare a double with a queen before deciding which size suits you.

Do double bed frames come with a mattress?

Some bed frames do come with a mattress, but you’ll need to check the individual product. If you're buying a frame separately, make sure you choose a mattress in the corresponding Australian double size. You can also browse double bedroom packages if you'd prefer to shop for multiple bedroom pieces together.

Will a double bed frame fit through a narrow doorway or staircase?

Many bed frames are delivered unassembled or in multiple components, but packaging and delivery formats vary between products. Check the package and product dimensions where available and measure narrow doorways, hallways and staircases along the route to the bedroom before ordering.

Are double bed frames difficult to assemble?

Assembly requirements depend on the individual bed frame. Some designs have relatively few components, while storage beds, upholstered frames and more detailed designs may involve additional steps. Check the product information and assembly instructions for what's required and whether additional tools or another person are recommended.
