King Single Bed Frames

Our king single bed frames cover timber, metal, upholstered and platform designs, along with drawer storage, gas-lift and trundle builds, at approximately 107cm by 203cm. It's a size that does more jobs than most: a child's second bed, a teenager's bed, a guest room, and a study that doubles as a spare room.

Factory Buys is Australian owned and operated, and every frame comes with a 12-month warranty.

Trundle frames, and what a second bed underneath needs

A trundle frame holds a second, lower bed on castors that rolls out from beneath the main one. It suits a room that needs to sleep two people occasionally without giving up the floor space the rest of the time.

Two things decide whether one will work. The first is clearance, since you need enough clear floor beside the bed to roll the trundle fully out and still move around it. The second is the mattress, because a trundle takes a lower-profile one so it fits underneath when closed. Our trundle beds range covers the standalone versions.

The bed after a child's first one

A king single is often the second bed a child has, bought when a single starts looking short and before a full-size double is needed. At around 203cm it's the same length as an adult bed, so it can carry through the teenage years without another change.

That makes it worth choosing a frame that will still look right in five years. Timber and neutral upholstered finishes tend to age better than a bright or themed design. Our king single range carries more timber and timber-look frames than the larger sizes do, with plenty of styles to suit their room.

The 15cm that decides whether a king single fits

A king single is about 15cm wider and 15cm longer than a single. In a generous room that's barely noticeable, but in a small second bedroom it's often the measurement that settles the layout.

The extra length can bring the foot of the bed across a doorway or a robe door, and the extra width can close the gap you were relying on to walk past. Measure the wall the bed will sit against and the clear run beside it, then compare that with the frame's external dimensions rather than the mattress size, since headboards and side rails add to both.

Frames that come apart and go back together

A king single frame is more likely than most to be moved, whether between rooms, between houses, or as children swap bedrooms. How the frame is joined decides how well it handles that.

Bolt-through fittings and cam locks can generally be undone and remade several times. Screws driven straight into particleboard hold well the first time but lose grip if the same hole is reused, so it's worth keeping the fixings together and working slowly on a rebuild. If you'd rather not do it yourself, our Airtasker partnership can help you find someone local to assemble selected furniture.

King Single Bed Frame FAQ

How does a trundle bed frame work?

A trundle is a second, lower bed on castors that stores under the main bed and rolls out when it's needed. It gives a room a second sleeping space without taking the floor area permanently.

What size mattress fits the trundle underneath?

Trundles take a lower-profile mattress so the whole thing clears the main bed frame when it's closed. The maximum depth varies by model and is listed in the product specification. Check whether a trundle mattress is included or sold separately before ordering.

Is a king single frame too big for a small bedroom?

Not necessarily, though the extra 15cm of width and length over a single can matter in a tight room. Measure the wall the bed will sit against and the clear run beside it, and compare that with the frame's external dimensions rather than the mattress size.

Can a king single bed frame be taken apart and rebuilt?

Most can. Frames using bolt-through fittings or cam locks generally handle being dismantled and reassembled several times. Where screws go directly into particleboard, reusing the same hole weakens the hold, so keep the original fixings and take your time on a rebuild.

Do king single frames come in timber?

Yes. Timber and timber-look designs are well represented in the king single range, more so than in the larger sizes. Our king single bedroom packages pair several of the same frames with a mattress if you need both.
